So friends, we still have our black Lab anrd we call her Sheba. Today was a bad day for her because her friend Rascal, the neighbor’s dog received a fatal blow by an automobile. Sheba kept barking from the front porch on this beautiful, cool, Fall morning. Her hair was standing up. I thought she was barking at the lawnmower. My husband drove on up to tell me the sad news.
Rascal, a mini Doberman Pincher/ Chihuahua mix was a fun friend for Sheba. But we think Rascal is the one who always led Sheba astray, to the cemetery across the highway. We have a few acres so the cemetery is in our view, although we see all that goes on. Rather we see her, Sheba, bringing us vases of flowers and most recently a heavy, nice vase. I am thinking she was bringing me flowers but they may have fallen out in the journey, which is not too much of a stretch of the imagination.
This dog, this sweet, affection, plant killing, hole digging animal has brought us many treasures. So far we have received shoes, pants, glass, old bottles, an old diaper pale, a Corning wear dish (newer kind). We hope those who keep up the cemetery will appreciate her help and that others will realize to never, ever leave ANYTHING out. She also has a stolen collection of toys, some were Rascals toys. She is really going to miss Rascal.
So, I was sad about Rascal dying. Our indoor dog enjoyed bullying her by chasing her home with fury. He used to chase and herd her out of the road back to her house where she could be safe. Our inside dog is a real wimp who is scared of thunder, vacuum cleaners, and lots of stuff. He got to really show his manhood when we let him out to chase Rascal. So both dogs are missing Rascal.
So, I end this blog with sadness. So much of life is really much worse but death is a sad thing even if it is someone else’s dog.
